Foundation Paper Piecing

We have the privilege of having Isabelle Selak from South Bay Bella as a guest teacher! Check out her website https://southbaybellastudio.com/ and on instagram @southbaybella

Using two free blocks designed by Wombat Quilts, students will learn the basics of Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). Instruction will focus on choosing thread, fabric placement, block alignment, how to avoid fabric waste in FPP, and how to fussy cut for FPP.

Templates will be provided for students in class.

Students should bring:

Light gray or thread that matches the fabric colors chosen (either is fine). I like to use Aurifil 2600 Dove Gray.

Rotary cutter

Quilting Ruler (at least 6”x13”)

Small scissors

Background fabric:
1/2 yard of background fabric for both blocks (or the pre cut equivalent: 2 fat quarters or 4 fat eighths or 24 5” squares)

Focus Prints:
Lone Starburst - 3 fat quarters of focus prints (green, white, and turquoise in the example) - one for each color in the block. For a scrappy block, students should bring scraps that are at least 3” x 9” for each piece in the block. This will be slightly more than necessary, but will leave room for error and fussy cutting for beginners.

Straight Star: one fat quarter of focus print fabric (green in the example). For a scrappy block, students should bring scraps that are at least 3” x 9” for each piece in the block. This will be slightly more than necessary, but will leave room for error and fussy cutting for beginners.
